Podcast Wednesday: SDXE At SXSW 2008 - The Highlights

Yeah, we got our hairs frosted in Austin. What of it? We also filmed more than two dozen videos of our trip to the big rock n’ roll circus fest in Texas (which you can find on our Lost In Austin page). But if you don’t feel like plowing through said body of work, might we suggest this mercifully succinct highlight reel? It’s got exclusive footage of our SXSW showcase, MAKE FUNNY NOT WAR, as well as the day party we cosponsored, MESS WITH TEXAS 2.

SxSW Decompression, Pt. 1

Some of us are back in Atlanta after a whirlwind adventure at SxSW. We saw a cornucopia of bands, put on two wildly successful parties, hung out with tons of new and old friends, ate beef at all three meals on Saturday, and learned that a band which primarily sings about partying probably isn’t going to be very responsible about video-shoot schedules. And our ears are still ringing. Hard.

While we organize our thoughts—a round-up of all of the bands I caught is forthcoming—and our videos of The Sword, Clipse, X, Duke Spirit, Municipal Waste and Saul Williams are edited down for your enjoyment, we want to give a shout-out to all the folks who worked so hard (both in Austin and Atlanta) to make it all possible.

See you next year, Austin!

PS: Not even Slayer can save shitty pizza.

Eugene Mirman Channels Brian Posehn At MESS WITH TEXAS 2

Poor Brian. Apparently, he lost his voice yelling at metal bands or something. Fortunately, Eugene was there to help.

The Breeders At MESS WITH TEXAS 2

Seeing the Deal sisters back on stage was the absolute highlight of day.

MESSED WITH TEXAS 2

The sun shone brightly on all who came out yesterday to our other big event that we cosponsored at SXSW. MESS WITH TEXAS 2 was a much more sprawling affair than MAKE FUNNY NOT WAR. For starters, it was outside at Waterloo Park (which apparently is a great place to smoke crack in the off-season). From what we could tell, about a billion people showed up (it was free, after all). And in addition to our line-up, there were two other stages with, like, a gazillion bands on them. Again, we want to thank everyone who helped make it happen, blah, blah, blah…

Mucho footage to come.

Got all that? For those of you who have trouble focusing on four-tone neo-psychedelic event posters, let us paraphrase: Mess With Texas 2 is going to be amazing (the Breeders? Really?). It’s also the “other” big party we’re involved with next month in Austin. For the second year in a row, we’ll be sponsoring the comedy stage at the all-day shindig and we couldn’t be happier. Especially now that it’s moved to an outside venue, is all ages, open to the public and going down the very next day after our “other” big party there.

So, once again, if you’re in downtown Austin Saturday March 15th with nothing else to do, please drop by.
