Oh, Hey! We Had An Update Yesterday.

In case you didn’t already notice, we set free the latest batch of new features yesterday. Here’s the quick and dirty list of the new awesome:

  • New Homepage Design:
We redesigned the entry point to the funny to make things easier to find and more inviting.
  • Most Viewed/Highest Rated:
Everyone loves lists of top things. Here’s your chance to see the most viewed and highest rated videos on the site. You can choose to look at only the top videos from Artists, or just members or from the whole pool of funny.
  • Search:
We added the ability to search for Series and the results page got tabby. From here you can choose to only look at results for Videos, Series, Artists, Members, and All. Take a look.
  • Other Redesigniness:
The Series and Shows pages were combined into Funny Shows, which showcases the greatest stuff from our Artists, the video player got some freshening up and we added links to send videos to Fark and Stumble Upon.
  • Artist Series List:
Artist profiles now contain a list of all their series. If they have series.

Your Profile got a lot of updates, it gets it’s own section.

  • Themes:
You can choose to select from a set number of themes to jazz up your member profile page. From your profile, click the Open button to slide down the theme selection box. This is where I spent 90% of my time yesterday and the reason for the delay in this blog post. It was just so difficult to decide between the football theme and the hip-hop theme, you know?
  • Favorites:
Think of it as a collection of your favorite videos around the site. It’s your chance to program the site by watching them all as a playlist or let others subscribe via RSS. You can even embed the player in your blog.
  • Series Favorites:
You can also add any of our original series as a favorite, sort of like being a fan of an Artist. From the series profile page select the Add this series to my favorites link and you’re done. The series will then show up in your profile under the Shows section.
  • Recent Comments:
Here you can keep track of the hilariously witty and well thought out last few comments you’ve left strewn throughout the site. Laugh at your funniness over and over.
  • So with that, I’ll leave you to explore the site. If you’d like to tell us how much you love the updates or just say hi, feel free to drop us a line.

The current version sports the latest and greatest featured videos and podcasts. Future releases will include more videos and new layout and design things.

This was conceived of and written by star developer Heidi Hysell. We’d also like to throw a shout-out to Joe Hewitt for creating iUI, which allowed for quick prototyping and rapid development of this fine application.

If you’re an iPhone user, be sure to checkout http://iphone.superdeluxe.com and let us know what you think.

So Fresh And So Clean: Super Deluxe Site Update

Question: When is Super Deluxe going to have some amazing new features for me to enjoy?
    Answer: Today.

It’s been awhile since the nerds took over the blogspace. But, we’re here to break it down one time. Or something. Forget it. Here’s what we’ve been working on:

    • Homepage Redesign: Our new homepage is chock full of video goodness. There are more featured videos from our Artists and links to their profiles. There’s direct access to some of our funniest series. And, more videos from our community of awesome Members (you!). Everyone should be able to find something to spend hours of their day doing.
    • Search: Queries now return results for videos plus Artists and Members. And, if you click through to the view all page for a specific type, you can sort the columns a number of different ways. Try it out.
    • Series: I know you love Chasing Donovan. I love it, too. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a page specifically built to house Donovan’s antics? If you said “Yes!” then you’re in luck. Every series created by our talented Artists now has its own profile page. You can subscribe to get new episodes of the series, watch episodes individually—or even watch them all from the beginning with the Watch All Episodes link.
    • Watch All: A Series page isn’t the only place you can enjoy a stream of videos. Throughout the site you’ll find links to Watch All Videos of a Member, Artist or Advertiser or the latest featured videos on the homepage.
    • Extra Videos: After every video, there is now a list of extra videos that show up directly in the player for you to be entertained by. The list scrolls through a few pages of choices and will loop back through if you don’t select anything.
    • Credits: Anyone can now add credits to their videos. Now everyone will know exactly who played the role of Gnorm in your classic short “Gnome, Sweet Gnome.” By the way, I love that video. Thanks for uploading it.
    • Video Views: Simply put, this is the number of times a video has been viewed. You’ll see this on the Profile, View All Uploads and Video Detail pages.

We’ve also made other changes to the layout here and there. Everyone’s Profile page gets a newish look along with their View All Uploads pages. The Video Details page has some extra info, such as views and credits, as mentioned above, plus if it is part of a Series, you’ll get that info, too.

Plus! There’s bound to be something I forgot to mention here. See if you can find it.

Nice talking to you again. It’s been my pleasure!

New Things For You To Look At On Super Deluxe

We here at Super Deluxe are on an endless mission to improve the site, rarely leaving our cavernous new residences to do anything more than get more energy-providing corporate caffeine. But that’s really not our point. Here are some *NEW* features for you to enjoy today:

First up, we redesigned the top Featured Video area on our homepage. Since many of you thought this was an advertisement, we wanted to make it look less like an ad and more like something that you should want to watch. Immediately. We’re using script.aculo.us to obtain the whiz-bangy transition effect. Cool, ain’t it?

Next, Related Videos. As you might imagine, these are videos related to the one you are currently watching. There’s a secret algorithm behind this amazing component that will deliver only the best videos. Sometimes it’ll be videos with similar tags or videos by the same uploader, or something totally random that’ll have you asking questions like, “How the hell is that related?” Trust me, it’s supposed to work that way.

Also, Social Bookmarks: This is an easy and convenient way for you to post a video to Digg, Facebook, or Del.icio.us and share with the masses. After watching a video, simply click on one of the links to post to the desired site. It’s so easy even El Douche A could figure it out.

On the bug-fix side of things:

You may have noticed that occasionally Profile pages would report that a member only had 10 uploads, when you know they have more. This was seen mostly on our Artist pages that have a lot of uploads, such as Brad Neely or Fark TV. We fixed this so now all their uploads can be browsed. It should be noted that the videos were always there, it’s just that you would have had to search for them to find them. Anyway, now it’s easier to watch Prof. Brothers present History Lesson #1.

    So we all win.

And, I’m done. ‘Til next time, I bid you adieu.

Patches: Not Just For Pirates Anymore

Hello, bobafred here, writing to you from the confines of the ultra-secret technology clubhouse we built for Super Deluxe using duct tape and bailing wire. Deep within the secure, cavernous confines of this fortress, Team Spectaculo—the technology arm of Super Deluxe—is working in a cramped lab tirelessly developing more features and fixing mistakes. (Not that we ever make mistakes.)

As I am one of the few members of Team Spectaculo who can formulate coherent sentences, I’ve been asked to drop by the blog every so often to keep you guys updated on all the wondrous fixes and enhancements that we have in store for Super Deluxe. Today’s update is a brief overview of our very first bug fix patch, which is now live. Enjoy.

    • Size Matters: The number 1 request from our users has been that they’d like to be able to have longer passwords. We’ve listened. We now support passwords between 5 and 16 characters. If you’d like a longer password, you can update your current one on the Edit Preferences page. If you’re happy with your current password, leave it. We still respect the 5-8 character ones, too. We’re about respect here—nothing but respect.
    • 9 > 3: Your profile page just got 3x better. Now you can see your last 9 uploads instead of just 3. Three is dumb. Nine is good.
    • More RSS Feeds: Would you like to be able to keep up with the latest uploads from your favorite Super Deluxe user? Good. I’ve got great news! Now you can, with the magical technology that is RSS and your favorite feed reader. Just browse to their Profile or Uploads page and subscribe. Easy.
    • How Many Uploads?: The Profile page also now lets you know how many videos a user has uploaded. No more counting on fingers and toes.
    • View More From This User: Sometimes after I watch a funny-ass video, I want more from the same user. Back in the olden days of Super Deluxe this required two clicks. In the new and improved days, it takes only one. Just click on the “View all their uploads” link and you’re there. We’re all about efficiency.
    • Embedded Video Player: There was a problem embedding our viral player in some really big Web site that a lot of people use. It’s called MySpace. I’m unfamiliar with it. We’ve made the necessary changes so that this is no longer an issue.

Of course, there are tons of other super technical behind-the-scenes things that have happened, too. I’d go into it all, but it would seriously destroy your mind. And we don’t want that. Although, that might make for some funny videos.

And that’s not all! We’re hard at work on new features and enhancements that will make the site even more kick-ass than it already is. Hard to imagine, but true.

So, until the next time they let me out of the programming dungeon, I wish you a good day.
