It’s official. We’ve made a bright yellow poster with black writing on it. As you can see, that writing provides details about a party we’re throwing at this year’s South By Southwest music conference. It also elucidates the names of the entertainers that will be performing at the event as well as its exact location, date and time. Should you find yourself in Austin, Texas in the fair month of March, we suggest you stop by.
Update: Re-uploaded the poster to make a correction or two.
No problem, dear emailer. Super Deluxe is always ready to assist your African-American light entertainment needs, be they in New York City, Los Angeles or Taipei. Now, let us just drop what we’re doing here at this trifling little comedy video site and see if we can ring up ol’ Bill Cosby or something.
I was just recently in New York over the weekend and checked out Dave Hill’s band, Children of the Unicorn at The Highline Ballroom. I was excited to see that the headliners were Gibby Haynes with the School of Rock All Stars, playing Butthole Surfers songs.
As you can see, it was pretty awesome.
Afterwards, I managed to talk Dave and a some fellow comedian friends to go get some wings and talk some shop.
A month ago, we axed you guys to watch Brad Neely’s I Am Baby Cakes - The Coffee Line with your eyes wide open and find us the most obscure visual reference you could spot. All for the love of a Boobie Bunny t-shirt in the size of your choosing.
Of the four entrants, one found something that stumped our collective cultural knowledge. Commenter Andrew Greenstone noted: “Im pretty sure the at 1:14 the dildo gun on the far left…”
…is from Shu Lea Cheang’s movie I.K.U.”
Only one of us had seen I.K.U., and on our multiple viewings of Coffee Line, no one had made the connection between the one dildo gun and the other. Whether it was Neely’s intention to make the reference or not, Andrew clearly found something we didn’t see. So bully for you, Andrew.
We’ll be in touch today via e-mail to get your size and address information. Thanks to everyone who entered!
Devout Tim and Eric fans may already know his name (as should anybody else who’s looked at the Internet in the last 8 years). Recently, Eric Fensler has worked as a collaborator on Tim And Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!, but he’s perhaps best known for making those overdubbed G.I. Joe P.S.A. videos that have since graduated into the pantheon of Internet classics. While we’re not sure whether he lends any of his video making magic to Tim And Eric Nite Live, we do know that he also makes pretty amazing music videos that more people should see. That is, assuming those people like AM radio weirdo Ariel Pink and genius-savant Daniel Johnston and stuff like that.
Ariel Pink- “Politely Declined”
Daniel Johnston- “Monster Inside Of Me”
Graham Smith - “Long Time, No Sleep”
Are 3 minutes way too long to watch a new Super Deluxe video? Finally, there’s a solution for the on-the-go viewer: introducing Diet Super Deluxe. Using science and technology, we extract only the most hilarious wackiness—that is, sans the proverbial 2:59 minutes of fat—from a premiere video and post it here on the blog for your quick-and-easy consumption.
Diet Super Deluxe #1 is from today’s Position of the Day - Support Our Troops.
Made exclusively for us by Hunter Wook-Jin Clark.
Oh yeah. We did.
See, when you work at a “comedy Web site,” you get to do wacky things like hire obese people to dress up like Cupid on Valentine’s Day and make the boss feel awkward.
And that concludes our mega-Valentine’s Day blog odyssey (3 V-day posts? Really?).
Alert the presses! The official correspondent of the Super Deluxe blog, Toby Radloff, has a special Valentine’s Day crush to announce.
Does this look like something you’d like to download and put on your desktop?
Of course it does. Now, how about music? You like music? Specifically, MP3’s of Baby Cakes songs and Professor Brothers songs and all types of other Brad Neely-made songs?
You do? Good. Because a gold mine of downloads has surfaced on his artist profile. Enjoy.
